A lip flip uses a small amount of neurotoxin to relax the muscles around the upper lip, creating a subtle, lifted and more defined appearance without adding filler or volume. If your upper lip disappears when you smile, or you'd like a softer, fuller look without injections of filler, the lip flip is one of the simplest treatments we offer.

Duration: 30 minutes.

How a lip flip works

The muscles around your mouth include a small band called the orbicularis oris, which circles your lips and can pull the upper lip inward or downward, especially when you smile. During a lip flip, our nurse injector places a few precise injections of Botox or another wrinkle relaxer along the upper lip line. Over the next several days the muscle gently relaxes, allowing the upper lip to roll slightly outward and sit a little higher. The result is a naturally fuller-looking upper lip with a smoother, more defined lip line, no filler required.

Because the treatment uses only neurotoxin, it does not add volume or change the structure of the lip the way filler does. The effect is soft and subtle, which is exactly why so many clients love it as a first step into injectables or as a light refresh between appointments.

Lip flip vs. lip filler

These two treatments are often confused, but they work very differently:

  • Lip flip: relaxes the muscle so your existing upper lip shows more. Subtle, no volume added, $99, results last about 8 to 12 weeks.
  • Lip filler: adds hyaluronic acid filler for volume, shape and definition. Results are immediate and last several months to a year.

Many clients start with a lip flip to see how a lifted upper lip looks, and some later choose to add a small amount of filler for extra fullness. Others are happy with the flip alone. During your free consultation we'll look at your lip shape, smile and goals and recommend the best option for you.

What to expect at your appointment

Your appointment starts with a quick consultation so your injector can understand your goals and confirm you're a good candidate. The injections themselves take only a few minutes and feel like tiny pinches. Most clients describe the discomfort as minimal, and numbing cream is available if you'd like it. There is no downtime, so you can return to work or your day immediately after.

Results and aftercare

  • Results appear gradually over 3 to 7 days as the muscle relaxes.
  • The effect typically lasts 8 to 12 weeks, so many clients return quarterly.
  • Avoid rubbing or pressing on the lip area, strenuous exercise, and lying flat for about 4 hours after treatment.
  • Skip facials, waxing or anything that presses on the lip area for 24 hours.

Minor swelling or a small bruise at an injection point can happen but usually resolves within a day or two. We'll review all aftercare with you in person before you leave.

Am I a good candidate?

The lip flip works best for clients whose upper lip rolls under or disappears when they smile, or who want a subtle lift without the added volume of filler. If your main goal is significant fullness, lip filler may be a better fit, and we're happy to talk through both options. A lip flip is not recommended if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neuromuscular conditions. Your injector will review your health history during the consultation.
