When side effects show up
Almost everything you feel clusters in the few days after starting and the few days after each dose increase, then eases as your body adapts. That pattern is the most useful thing to know, because it means a hard week is usually temporary rather than a sign the medication is wrong for you. It is also why we titrate slowly instead of chasing a higher dose quickly.
Nausea
The most common complaint, and largely a consequence of slowed stomach emptying. Eating smaller portions helps immediately, most people underestimate how much less food they now need. Eat slowly, stop at the first sign of fullness rather than finishing the plate, and go lighter on greasy, fried, and very rich foods, which sit heaviest. Cold or room temperature foods are often easier than hot. If nausea is persistent rather than occasional, tell us before your next increase.
Constipation and digestive changes
Extremely common and mostly a hydration and fiber problem made worse by simply eating less. Drink more water than feels necessary, add fiber from vegetables and legumes rather than relying only on supplements, and keep moving daily, walking genuinely helps. Some clients need a gentle over the counter option, which we are happy to discuss at a check in. Diarrhea occurs less often and is usually short lived after a dose change.
Fatigue and the risk of eating too little
When appetite drops sharply, many clients unintentionally undereat, and fatigue is the first signal. This is the side effect worth actively resisting, because chronic underconsumption costs you muscle and slows your metabolism. Aim for protein at every meal, keep electrolytes and fluids up, and treat your daily protein target as non negotiable even on days you are not hungry. Resistance training, even twice a week, protects the muscle you have.
When to call us
Contact us promptly for severe or persistent abdominal pain, especially pain radiating to your back, persistent vomiting or an inability to keep fluids down, signs of dehydration, or a severe allergic reaction. These are uncommon but they are not things to wait out. For the everyday discomforts, message us at any point rather than quietly stopping your medication, most of it is solvable with a dosing or timing adjustment.
What helps most overall
Titrating slowly, eating smaller and more often, protein first, water constantly, and being honest at your check ins. Clients who report symptoms early nearly always have an easier run than those who push through silently and then quit.
