How to prepare
For about twenty four hours beforehand, skip alcohol and, if your doctor has not prescribed them, hold off on fish oil, vitamin E, ibuprofen, and aspirin. All of them thin the blood slightly and make bruising more likely. Come with clean skin and no makeup on the areas you want treated if you can. Do not book on a day you have an event that evening.
The consultation comes first
Your first visit starts with a conversation and a facial assessment, not a needle. Your injector watches your face move, maps which muscles are creating the lines that bother you, and reviews your medical history and any prior treatments. Bring photos if there is a look you are aiming for, and be specific about what you do not want. Everyone agrees on a conservative starting dose before anything is injected, and you get an exact quote first.
The injections themselves
The whole appointment runs about forty five minutes, and the injecting portion is only a few minutes of that. The needle is very fine and each injection is a brief pinch, often described as less than a lash tint and much less than a brow wax. There is no numbing required for a wrinkle relaxer, though topical numbing is available for filler. You will see tiny raised bumps at each site that flatten within fifteen to thirty minutes.
Aftercare that actually matters
Stay upright for four hours. Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot yoga for the rest of the day. Do not rub, massage, or press on the treated area, including facials and sleeping face down that night. Avoid facials, microneedling, and lasers in the area for two weeks. Mild redness, small bumps, and pinpoint bruising are all normal and resolve within a few days.
The two week follow up
Do not judge your result before day fourteen. Softening starts at day three to five and builds through week two. Come to your follow up and be honest about what you see. If you want more movement softened, units can be added. Starting low and building is the whole strategy, it is far easier to add than to wait out a result that went too far.
