Chemical Peels in Gilbert, AZ
A reset for dull, congested, uneven skin. A peel accelerates your skin turning itself over, revealing the clearer, brighter layer underneath.
What a peel actually does
A chemical peel applies an acid solution that dissolves the bonds holding dead cells to the surface of your skin, prompting them to shed and your skin to regenerate faster than it would on its own. Different acids do different jobs. Glycolic and lactic acids work on surface dullness, dryness and uneven tone. Salicylic acid is oil soluble, so it gets into pores and suits congestion and acne. Deeper blends reach further to address pigmentation and fine lines. The acid, the strength and the contact time are all adjustable, which is why a peel is better understood as a customizable treatment than a single product.
Who it is for
Peels suit skin that looks dull, rough, congested or uneven in tone, and they are one of the most cost effective ways to improve overall skin quality. They help with blackheads, mild acne, post acne dark marks, sun freckling and early fine lines. A peel is not the answer for laxity or indented scarring, that is RF microneedling, or for broken capillaries and heavy sun damage, where IPL is more direct. Peels are not appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding depending on the acid used, if you are on isotretinoin or have been within six months, if you have active cold sores, open skin or sunburn in the area, or if you have used retinoids in the last several days.
What to expect at your appointment
Stop retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs about five days beforehand, and do not come in with a tan or a fresh wax in the area. Skin is cleansed and degreased, the solution is applied in layers, and you will feel warmth, tingling or mild stinging that builds and then settles, most clients find it very manageable and it is over quickly. A peel appointment takes about thirty minutes. Afterward your skin looks flushed and feels tight. Peeling, when it happens, generally starts on day two or three and finishes within about a week, and superficial peels often produce only light flaking rather than dramatic shedding.
Aftercare and building a series
Do not pick, pull or help the peeling along, that is how you get scarring and pigmentation. Gentle cleanser and moisturizer only, no actives, retinoids or exfoliants for about a week, and no workouts, saunas or swimming for forty eight hours. Rigorous daily SPF is essential, freshly resurfaced skin burns and pigments easily, and here that matters more than most places. One peel gives you a visible glow, but real change in tone and congestion comes from a series of three to six spaced four weeks apart, with the strength stepped up as your skin builds tolerance.
Why fall is the right time in Arizona
Peels temporarily leave your skin more sun sensitive, and sun exposure afterward can cause the exact hyperpigmentation you were trying to treat. Through an Arizona summer that is a hard thing to manage. From roughly October through March the sun is far less punishing, which makes it the practical window to run a full series, and it means you go into the following spring with your tone already evened out. If you want a peel before a summer event, we can do it, we will just be firm about the sun protection.
