IPL Photofacial in Gilbert, AZ
The treatment for Arizona skin. IPL targets the brown spots and background redness that years of sun leave behind, clearing tone without resurfacing your skin.
How IPL differs from a laser
IPL stands for intense pulsed light, and unlike a laser it emits a broad spectrum of wavelengths rather than a single one. That light is absorbed by color in the skin, brown pigment and the red of blood vessels, heating and breaking it down so your body clears it while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This is why IPL is the right tool for discoloration and the wrong tool for wrinkles or texture. It changes the color of your skin, not its structure. For texture, scarring or laxity, RF microneedling is the treatment that actually addresses those.
Who it is for
IPL is ideal for sun damage, freckling, brown spots, age spots, broken capillaries, persistent facial redness and the flushing pattern of rosacea, on the face, chest, neck and hands. Living here, most adults have more accumulated sun damage than they realize. Because IPL targets pigment, it is not appropriate for darker skin tones, where it carries real risk of burns and hyperpigmentation, we assess your skin type honestly and will recommend a different treatment if IPL is not safe for you. It is also not suitable if you are tanned or recently sun exposed, pregnant, on isotretinoin, or taking a photosensitizing medication.
What to expect at your appointment
Arrive with no tan and no self tanner, and stay out of the sun for at least two weeks beforehand, this is the most important rule and the reason we may reschedule you. Skin is cleansed, protective eyewear goes on, and a cool gel is applied. The sensation is a quick snap of heat, most commonly compared to a rubber band flick. A full face takes about twenty to thirty minutes. Afterward you look flushed for a few hours, and your brown spots will get darker and appear more defined before they flake away over the following one to two weeks. That darkening is the treatment working.
Aftercare and how many sessions you need
Use gentle cleanser and moisturizer, no actives, retinoids or exfoliants for five days, and do not pick at the darkened spots, let them shed. Skip workouts, hot showers and saunas for twenty four hours. Strict daily SPF is not optional here, sun exposure after IPL will undo your result and can cause hyperpigmentation. Most clients need three to five sessions spaced three to four weeks apart, and results build with each one. Fall through early spring is the ideal window in Arizona because sun avoidance before and after is genuinely difficult in summer.
